Best Books of the Decade: No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July

No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July, 2007
I was probably 95% sold on Miranda July before I read this book. I liked Me and You and Everyone We Know well enough but I don’t know, I was a bit apprehensive still. My dad bought me this book because he said the cover made him think of something I would say. I read it over Thanksgiving weekend 2007 and fell in love with it. Miranda July excels as a short story writer because she is so intuitive and able to create the tiniest yet most powerful moments in her fiction. “Making Love in 2003” and “The Patio” are my favorites but they are all really fantastic.
“Look at the sky: that is for you. Look at each person’s face as you pass on the street: those faces are for you. And the street itself, and the ground under the street, and the ball of fire underneath the ground: all these things are for you. There are as much for you as they are for other people. Remember this when you wake up in the morning and think you have nothing.”
